Hosting
From Ask in Wiki
A way of using web based software. Does not require installation of any software pieces on your desktop computer. Instead, all your software applications, database and files are located on a computer in the Internet, which is maintained by your host provider for a certain monthly fee.
virtual hosting
Also called Virtual Private Server (VPS) or Virtual Dedicated Server (VDS) hosting. Virtual Hosting partitions a server into several Virtual servers that each act like dedicated servers. Allows users to have the features and benefits of a dedicated server at much less cost.
dedicated hosting
aka as dedicated server. This type of hosting allows a webmaster to rent an entire server. This server is not shared with anybody. This is more flexible than shared hosting (see below), as webmasters have full control over the server, including choice of operating system, hardware, etc. Administration, however, is still handled by the hosting company. Disk Space - Refers to an amount of space on a web server's hard drive.
shared hosting
hosting in which the service provider serves pages for multiple Web sites, each having its own Internet domain name, from a single Web server. Although shared hosting is a less expensive way for businesses to create a Web presence, it is usually not sufficient for Web sites with high traffic. These sites need a dedicated Web server, either provided by a Web hosting service or maintained in-house.
